What will you see in Madrid?

Madrid, the capital of Spain and the country’s cultural heart, is a vibrant city where history, art and the finest cuisine come together. Our private tour of Madrid takes you, guided by an expert local guide, through the most iconic corners of a city that was born in the 9th century as a small Moorish fortress and is today one of the most fascinating capitals in Europe.

We start at the Puerta del Sol, kilometre zero of Spain’s roads and the nerve centre of the city. We continue towards the spectacular Plaza Mayor, a jewel of Madrid’s Baroque architecture, and step into the Mercado de San Miguel to discover the authentic flavours of the capital. We visit the imposing Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish monarchy, and explore the Habsburg Madrid with its streets steeped in history.

The day continues along the Paseo del Arte (Art Walk), home to three of the world’s most important museums —Prado Museum, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza— and past the majestic Puerta de Alcalá. We end the tour at El Retiro Park, a green oasis in the very centre, perfect for enjoying the Crystal Palace, the pond and the century-old gardens. An exclusive experience, with no large groups, where you set the pace and our guide reveals the authentic Madrid to you.

A suggested itinerary

We begin the day with the convenience of a direct pick-up at your hotel or apartment in central Madrid. Your private guide greets you at whatever time suits you best and, before setting off, goes over the day’s plan with you and adjusts the itinerary to your interests, pace and level of detail.

We start at the Puerta del Sol, the geographical and symbolic heart of Spain. We tell you the story of the Casa de Correos clock, the origin of kilometre zero, the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, and the great historical events that have played out here.

We walk down Calle Mayor to reach the majestic Plaza Mayor. We explore its arcades, discover its paintings, legends and hidden corners, and step into Habsburg Madrid: cobbled alleyways, century-old taverns and churches from the Spanish Golden Age.

A few steps from the Plaza Mayor we visit the Mercado de San Miguel, a jewel of 19th-century iron architecture. Here you can sample select tapas, acorn-fed Iberian ham, homemade croquettes, Galician oysters and Spanish wines. An essential culinary break.

We visit the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Spanish monarchy. If you wish, we enter its halls (admission not included) to discover the Throne Room, the Royal Armoury and the Royal Chapel. We continue on to Almudena Cathedral and the Sabatini Gardens, with spectacular views over the Casa de Campo.

We take a break for lunch at one of the traditional restaurants recommended by our guide: cocido madrileño (chickpea stew), callos a la madrileña (Madrid-style tripe), a calamari sandwich in the Plaza Mayor or a tasting menu in the La Latina district. We’ll guide you according to your tastes and budget.

In the afternoon we walk along the Gran Vía, past the Cibeles fountain, the Bank of Spain and the Puerta de Alcalá. We reach the Paseo del Prado, where you can choose between a guided visit to the Prado Museum (admission not included) or continue on to El Retiro Park to see the Crystal Palace, the pond and the Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens.

We round off the day with a private return to your hotel, making sure every moment of the day has been unforgettable. If you like, we can end the tour in a particular part of Madrid (Malasaña, Chueca, the Barrio de las Letras) so you can enjoy Madrid’s nightlife on your own.
