What you'll see on your visit to Tangier

The Kasbah of Tangier

The old fortified citadel set at the highest point of the Medina, built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century. It houses the Dar el-Makhzen palace —today the Museum of Mediterranean Cultures— and offers the best panoramic views of the Strait of Gibraltar, with the Spanish coast visible on the horizon on clear days.

Cape Spartel

A rocky promontory 14 km west of Tangier, where the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea meet. Its historic 1864 lighthouse —the oldest in Morocco and awarded Heritage Lighthouse of the Year 2023— and the surrounding cliffs are one of the most photographed spots in North Africa.

Caves of Hercules

One of Morocco’s natural wonders, linked to the Greek myth of Heracles. Located 5 km from Cape Spartel, its famous opening to the ocean forms a silhouette surprisingly similar to an inverted map of Africa. Legend has it that Hercules rested here after separating Europe and Africa.

The Grand Socco

The commercial heart of Tangier for centuries, located at the gates of the Medina. Colourful spices, leather, textiles, lamps and ceramics come together in a unique sensory setting. It is the perfect place to discover local crafts and experience the most authentic atmosphere of Morocco.

A suggested itinerary

An early departure from Seville with pick-up at your accommodation or another agreed point. We cross the provinces of Seville and Cádiz, enjoying the Andalusian landscapes and leaving behind farmland, marshes and the Tarifa coast. A comfortable journey in a private vehicle to start the day calmly before crossing to Africa.

Arrival at the port of Tarifa and boarding the fast ferry heading directly to Tangier City. The crossing takes about 50 minutes and offers spectacular views of the Strait of Gibraltar, with the coast of Morocco getting ever closer and, weather permitting, the chance to spot dolphins.

On arrival in Tangier, a private vehicle awaits us for a panoramic tour that starts with the city’s most spectacular spots: Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet, and the legendary Caves of Hercules. An unforgettable first impression of Morocco.

Our local guide will lead you through the labyrinthine, bustling streets of Tangier’s historic centre. You will discover the Medina, its historic gates, the Kasbah with its views over the Strait and the famous Grand Socco, where you can take in the spices, textiles, leather and traditional Moroccan crafts.

A break to sample authentic Moroccan cuisine at restaurants recommended by locals: tagines, couscous, pastilla and traditional mint tea. After the meal you’ll have free time to explore the centre at your own pace, shop in the market or simply lose yourself in its streets.

In the mid-afternoon our guide accompanies us back to the port of Tangier. We board the ferry back to Tarifa, enjoying the views of the Strait at sunset, a perfect end to a day in which we will have crossed two continents in just a few hours.

The return journey to Seville in a private vehicle, arriving in the evening at the original pick-up point. And so we round off a unique experience: having discovered Morocco in a day and crossed from Europe to Africa and back without missing a single sunrise or sunset.

What if you add Gibraltar to your trip?

Since you’re coming all this way, why not combine this Tangier excursion with our private tour to Gibraltar. Visit the only British territory in continental Europe, take in the Rock and the Strait from its viewpoints, and then cross over to Africa all in one getaway. A unique opportunity to visit Spain, the United Kingdom and Morocco on a single trip: three countries, two continents and a thousand years of shared history. Ask us about this combination and we’ll design a tailor-made experience for you.

Frequently asked questions

The excursion lasts a full day, from the morning departure to the late-afternoon/evening return, approximately 10 hours in total. Our schedule is completely flexible and we can adapt the itinerary to your preferences and tastes. If you wish, we can also arrange an extended version with an overnight stay in one of the famous Riads of the Tangier Medina; in that case we’ll prepare a broader quote and estimate for your time in Morocco.

The excursion covers all the travel (private vehicle and Tarifa–Tangier–Tarifa ferry tickets) plus a full panoramic tour of Tangier that includes Cape Spartel, the Caves of Hercules, the Kasbah, the Medina and a walk through the Grand Socco, always accompanied by a specialised local guide.

Our local guides in Tangier give explanations in both Spanish and English to ensure that all participants enjoy an informative and immersive experience. If you have a preference for a particular language, let us know when booking and we’ll arrange it.

Included are: pick-up at your accommodation, the complimentary transfer to the port of Tarifa, the Tarifa–Tangier–Tarifa ferry tickets, the specialised local guide throughout the visit in Tangier, the private vehicle for the panoramic route in Morocco and the return to the previously agreed point in Seville or another Andalusian city.

Lunch is not included in the package, but you’ll have free time to enjoy the local cuisine at restaurants we recommend. If you prefer, we can also eat together so we can recommend the best typical Moroccan dishes and make sure you don’t miss anything of the culinary experience.

The transfer is made in a fully comfortable private vehicle. Departure and return are arranged from your accommodation or from the nearest accessible point possible. You can always suggest a different meeting point and we’ll arrange it together. It includes the fast ferry tickets Tarifa–Tangier–Tarifa.

Yes, the excursion includes moments of free time, especially after lunch, so you can explore Tangier at your own pace, shop in the Socco or enjoy a mint tea on a terrace with a view. Your guide will be available to recommend spots based on your interests.

Of course. Our itinerary is designed to cover the most iconic sights of Tangier, but you can always adapt it to your preferences. In the contact section you can suggest any changes you’d like. Remember that among our recommendations for discovering Morocco is also the option to combine with visits to Tetouan or Chefchaouen, the famous Blue City.

We recommend bringing comfortable clothing and footwear (we’ll walk the cobbled streets of the Medina), sun protection, a bottle of water, some cash in euros for small purchases in the Socco and, of course, your camera to capture the special moments. Don’t forget a valid ID card or passport: it is essential for crossing into Morocco.
