Private Tour · Caminito del Rey from Seville

What will you see on the Caminito del Rey?

Experience one of the most spectacular adventures in Andalusia with our private Caminito del Rey excursion from Seville. You’ll walk along the famous walkways suspended more than 100 metres above the River Guadalhorce, crossing the breathtaking Gaitanes Gorge, in the heart of the province of Málaga. Considered one of the most spectacular trails in the world, this route combines adventure, wild nature and a unique piece of Spanish industrial history.

Our private Caminito del Rey tour includes a comfortable pick-up at your Seville hotel, return transport, official tickets, a safety helmet and a licensed local guide. You’ll cover the 7.7 kilometres of the trail — from the northern entrance at Ardales to El Chorro, in Álora — admiring the aerial walkways, the Suspension Bridge over the canyon, the turquoise reservoirs of the Guadalhorce system and the Sierra de Huma. An accessible walk (with no steep climbs) and one you’ll never forget.

Beyond the landmarks, this tour includes what you won’t find in a guidebook: strategic photo stops with no queues, historical background on the 1905 construction, the hydraulic walkways and the royal visit of King Alfonso XIII in 1921, plus a lunch recommendation at a local venta (country inn) in the Valle del Hoyo. If you like, we can also arrange your Caminito del Rey excursion from Málaga, Granada, Ronda or Marbella: the same experience, the same quality, adapted to your starting point.

What you'll see on your visit to the Caminito del Rey

Gaitanes Gorge

A natural canyon up to 700 m deep and only 10 m wide at its narrowest points. A designated Natural Area, carved by the River Guadalhorce over millions of years.

Aerial Walkways of the Caminito del Rey

Almost 5 km of wooden walkways anchored to the rock face, 100 metres above the river. Built in 1905 for the dam workers, and completely restored and reopened to the public in 2015.

Suspension Bridge over the Canyon

The most photographed moment of the route: a 35-metre suspended walkway that crosses the gorge with a bird’s-eye view. Vertigo, adrenaline and the best postcard view of Málaga.

The Guadalhorce Reservoirs

Turquoise waters surrounded by Mediterranean pine forests. The hydroelectric system built in the early 20th century that gave rise to the Caminito itself, opened by King Alfonso XIII in 1921 — hence its name.

A suggested itinerary

We pick you up directly at your accommodation in Seville. The timing is set to match your entry slot for the Caminito del Rey (we always book the first of the day to avoid the heat and the crowds). A comfortable journey into the interior of the province of Málaga.

Arrival at the northern entrance of the Caminito del Rey, next to the Conde de Guadalhorce Reservoir. Collection of the official tickets (already booked in your name), handout of the compulsory safety helmet and a short talk from the guide about what you’ll see, the history of the site and practical tips.

The first section of the route: a gentle trail through pine forests until you reach the entrance to the walkways. Stops to photograph the reservoir, the Mirador del Tajo viewpoint and the first griffon vultures soaring over the gorge.

The heart of the experience. You’ll walk along the aerial walkways at 100 metres high, cross the famous 35-metre suspension bridge over the canyon and take in incredible views of the Gaitanes Gorge. Your guide will tell you the story of the hydroelectric works, the opening by King Alfonso XIII in 1921 and the spectacular restoration of 2015.

Arrival at the southern entrance (El Chorro / Álora) and lunch at a traditional Málaga venta (country inn). Chargrilled meats, fried fish, local wines and homemade desserts — always at family-run restaurants using produce from the area. (Lunch not included in the price; approximate budget: €20-25 per person.)

Return to Seville with a possible short stop at a panoramic viewpoint. We drop you off right at the door of your hotel. If you prefer, we can also adjust the itinerary to combine the Caminito del Rey with a short visit to Ronda or the white village of Setenil de las Bodegas (ask about the supplement).

Frequently asked questions

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons for their pleasant temperatures and soft light for photos. The Caminito del Rey is closed on Mondays and throughout January for maintenance. In summer we always arrange it first thing in the morning to avoid the hottest hours.

Yes, it’s absolutely essential. The official tickets sell out weeks (even months in high season) in advance. When you book our tour, we take care of arranging and purchasing the tickets in your name — you don’t have to worry about a thing.

The full day lasts between 9 and 10 hours: approximately 2h30 of travel from Seville, 3-4 hours on the Caminito (including the access trails), an hour for lunch and another 2h30 for the return. The walk on the walkways themselves takes about 2 hours.

It includes: pick-up and return to your hotel, a private vehicle with driver, an officially licensed local guide, official Caminito del Rey tickets, the compulsory safety helmet, the shuttle transfer between the two entrances of the route and public liability insurance. It does not include lunch (we take you to a local venta and you order à la carte).

It is not dangerous. After the 2015 restoration, the walkways were completely rebuilt with railings, solid wooden flooring and secure anchoring to the wall. The helmet is compulsory (we provide it) because of possible falling stones from the top of the canyon. No serious accident has been recorded since it reopened.

If your fear of heights is very strong, it can be challenging: there are sections 100 metres above the river and a stretch of transparent glass floor. However, the walkways are wide (1.5 m) and perfectly protected with railings. Many clients with a moderate fear of heights complete it without any problem by focusing on looking at the horizon. If in doubt, write to us before booking and we’ll advise you.

Yes, the official regulations set a minimum age of 8. Entry is not permitted for children under that age, nor with babies in a backpack or carrier. For older visitors in good physical shape there is no upper limit — we regularly welcome clients aged 70 or over who complete the route without any problem.

Closed, comfortable footwear (trainers or hiking shoes — flip-flops and heels are not allowed), clothing suited to the season, sun protection (cream, cap, sunglasses), at least a litre of water, an energy snack and your camera or phone for photos. In winter, add a windproof jacket; in summer, a lightweight long-sleeved top. We provide the helmet.

Yes, we organise the excursion to the Caminito del Rey from any city in Andalusia: Málaga (1h by car), Marbella (1h30), Ronda (45 min), Granada (1h45), Córdoba (2h) or from the Costa del Sol. We adapt the pick-up time to your starting point. Ask us about availability and a personalised price.

Of course, that’s the advantage of a private tour. We can combine the Caminito del Rey with visits to Ronda, the white villages (Setenil de las Bodegas, Olvera), the Gaduares river gorge or a tasting of Málaga olive oils and wines. We also adapt the pace, the stops and the lunch to your preferences. Tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll design the day for you.
